A Bug in Gmail Erases Thousands Of Accounts


On 27th Feb,2011 , Around 150,000 Gmail users when logged in to their Gmail accounts were shocked to see their worst nightmare come true, all of their email correspondences and chat logs were erased and there accounts were reset to their original state as if they were newly created. All this havoc was caused due to a Bug that erased all the account info and made it vanish in the cloud.

Though the Google says that its estimate of the number of accounts affected were 150,000, or approximately 0.02% of all Gmail users so consider yourself as a very lucky person or whatever but the truth remains that when it comes to really important messages.

This also shows how important it is to always backup your important data and emails before some bug simply erases your years of correspondances.According to Google a bug in an updated version of their storage software was responsible for the data loss in their servers affecting their redundant data stores. They have since reverted to an older version of the software.
